Who
We Are: Vision, Values & Mission
Kehilla Community
Synagogue's vision is to create a living
Judaism through a sustainable Jewish Renewal community. We are:
- a community where we keep alive Jewish spiritual and
ethical values
- a community that offers the Jewish teachings in a
non-authoritarian way and connects them to the ancient tradition in a
vital and relevant way
- a religious community that calls upon us to act for tikkun
olam, the healing and repair of our planet and our lives;
- a community that works together to make a unique
contribution to bringing justice, compassion, peace, and healing to our
community and the world
- a community that advocates full equality, democracy and
participation in the life of the congregation;
- a community of many
teachers, where we all teach and learn from one another
- a community where we recognize and celebrate our
commonalties with others, and where we honor and cherish our
differences
- a community that honors and provides education and other
support to families and children
- a caring community where we support one another, a
community in support of a Jewish homeland in the state of Israel, as
well as in support for the right of the Palestinians to their own
homeland
- a community where we honor our coming together to celebrate
our sacred religious and spiritual traditions, and where we create an
environment where serious spiritual searching and experimentation is
nurtured and supported
As members of a
Jewish renewal congregation,
- we recognize that each one of us is a manifestation of the
Great Mystery here on earth, and we approach each other with a spirit
of acceptance and respect
- we recognize there are many ways to communicate with and
grow closer to God/the Divinelthe Great Mystery/the Ein Sof
- we respect and honor diversity of Jewish expression in our
membership and activities
- we assert that the community supports the creating and
strengthening of families of all kinds
- we recognize that all things in the Universe are
interconnected and we urge compassionate and fair treatment of all
beings
- we recognize that integrating the specific details and the
forms of the Jewish Tradition into our lives and translating them into
action is important
- we recognize and are inspired by the wisdom, spiritual
nourishment, and beauty of other religions, faiths, traditions, and
cultures
Kehilla
Community Synagogue will reach its vision by:
- practicing our values and ethics in our organization, our
board and committees, and in relations with our employees, members, and
members of the community at large
- creating a community where people come to know and trust
one another, through welcoming new members, sharing simchas, visiting
the sick, caring for those in emotional or physical need, and caring
for the dead, and creating programs and services which meet the
spiritual,
educational, political, and communal needs of our members and our
communities
- providing services that are physically accessible to all
who want them; we welcome all people regardless of ability to pay
This statement of Vision,
Values, and Mission for Kehilla Community
Synagogue is an expression of the ongoing process and dialogue within
our community. It is meant to be a dynamic, living expression of our
intent. We encourage participation in the ongoing development and
implementation of our community's vision. Approved at Kehilla Community
