We are beginning our second year of a wonderful program for teenage girls-- "Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing!," a program of Moving Traditions. This is an opportunity for pre- teen and teen girls (Grades 8-12) to meet on a monthly basis. It is based on the Jewish tradition of women’s New Moon celebrations. The on-going group builds self-esteem, leadership skills, Jewish identity, and Jewish friendship networks of adolescent girls.
"It’s a Girl Thing!" meetings provide a supportive environment in which the teens can explore the social and cultural issues they encounter as they become adults. The teens draw on Jewish teachings and traditions to learn how to handle the challenges they face, such as peer pressure, body image concerns, and building relationships. "It’s a Girl Thing!" balances discussion, role-playing, crafts, writing, music, and socializing.
Dates & Times: We will meet once a month on Sundays from 5-7:00 pm. Our first meeting is before Rosh Hashana, on Sept. 7th. See the Calendar Schedule for 2008-09 so you can mark your calendar now.
Cost: The cost of the program is $250 for the school year for Kehilla members; $350 for non-members. This fee covers all the materials and supplies your daughter will need for the program. (While the fee covers snacks, last year the girls wanted pizza, which was paid for on a rotating basis by parents; it was about $15 one time over the year.)
No girl will be turned away due to lack of funds; if the cost is prohibitive for your family, just contact Elizheva Hurvich at Rosh@KehillaSynagogue.org or (510) 547-2424 x104. She would love to talk with you about this exciting new program!
Registration: To register for "It's A Girl Thing!" please download, print out and return the Registration Form.
