Kehilla
Community Synagogue Adult Education
Jewish
History From A Radical Perspective
Begins Wed.,
April 5, 7:30pm
Taught by
Rabbi David J. Cooper
This five-session
class is the first of
four major classes to be taught over the next year that are available
to anyone,
but especially for folks who may be interested in Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah
or
conversion to Judaism. It will examine
how Judaism has been an evolving civilization with an evolving
consciousness
from age to age. It will also examine what role Kehilla and Jewish
Renewal play
in this evolution. Our
text will be A Short History of the Jewish People
by Raymond Scheindlin. This book gives good succinct background in the
facts of
Jewish history. I am a bit critical of the chapters on modern Jewish
experience, but in general the book is a useful overview. For the first
class,
you may want to read through page 33.
Dates: April 5, 19, May 3,
17 & 31.
