DOCUMENT VI: Our Hopes for Reconciliation

We call upon and will support the Israeli and Palestinian peoples and their leaders to proceed in good faith toward mutual recognition and a two-state solution. Such a resolution to the conflict will require a series of acts and agreements in addition to those already discussed. The following points represent our attempt to imagine what would be required for a comprehensive peace. They are listed in no particular order.

~ We hope that Israel will withdraw to its pre-1967 borders. This would include the dismantling of the settlements.
~ We hope that Palestinians will succeed in creating an economically viable Palestinian state governed by democratic principles, and that Israel will support this.
~ We hope that all the parts of the new state of Palestine will be contiguous and not unattached separate pockets.
~ We hope that Israel and Palestine will officially recognize one another and foreswear any and all attempts to destroy one another.
~ We hope that the citizens of both nations will live in states with clearly defined borders, with security and respect, and access to water and other resources needed to create and maintain viable living conditions for all people living in the two states.
~ We hope that the governments of Israel and the Palestinian Authority will treat any act of violence or terror by its citizens against the citizens of the other entity as a crime against peace. In such cases the two governments will cooperate in the pursuance of justice.
~ We hope that Israel will offer support to the new state of Palestine.
~ We hope that Jerusalem will represent and be a place for the aspirations for peace of all peoples.
~ We hope that the state of Israel and the future state of Palestine will both provide full civil rights for all residents and citizens.
